"Emission reductions 80% below actual 1990 levels means the world would have to eliminate 96% of the greenhouse gases that all humantiy woiuld likely rtelease if we reach populations levels, economic growth and living standards projected for 2050. Without fossil fuels those projections for better living standards would never be reached. In fact, average world per capita GDP in 2050 would be less than what Americans had in 1830!"  Paul Driessen and Roger Bezdek analyse what the voluntary emission curbs would mean for the world's economy if they ever materialise.
